“Only a Sith deals in absolutes. I will do what I must.” ―Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith
I believe in people getting along with one another, working together and understanding one another – even if they never agree with one another. There’s very few people (although there are a few people) who I just don’t want to ever see or hear from again. (And you’ve got to seriously and repeatedly tick me off to get to that point.) I might not agree with a lot of what the majority of people around me believe, especially in the arenas of religion and education, but I don’t believe that it should impact my enjoyment of them as people or their enjoyment of me for who I am. In short, I am a rather large fan of the “live and let live” attitude in regards to political, religious, and educational beliefs. Unfortunately, I don’t see that happening too often in real life.
But, an inspiring blending of groups from the University of Illinois went down to New Orleans to work on building new and refurbishing existing houses. The author does a nice job of explaining how the student group Atheists, Agnostics and Free Thinkers ended up joining forces with the student group Campus Crusade for Christ to make a real difference some peoples’ lives – and to learn a bit about themselves and each other along the way.
Thanks to Hemant Mehta, over at Friendly Atheist for bringing this to my attention.

cool story- as always you are a wise and sage obi wan. One of the many reasons I like you
Wow. That is impressive.
I had an almost dead opposite experience with CCC in college. Someone thought that it would be funny to put the college gaming club in with CCC in the same office. While we were polite about sharing the space, their people were actively rude and unwilling to get along. They didn’t think they should have to share space (office space was very limited) and certainly not with US. Besides having issue with us in general, they took exception to our non Christian members being in “their” office.
Good to see some changes there.
Eileen: I think you meant a wise and sage obi MOM, right?
RavenChild: No, I don’t see such cooperative and respectful attitudes too often either – but I’m trying to be hopeful after reading about those two groups working together so well. I’m glad your gaming club was able to hold to the “higher ground”.
