“Now this is pod racing!” - Anakin Skywalker, Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace
We’ve got a bit of a pod race going on right now here at Tatooine, a race to see how fast each of us can get these iPods filled to the brim with music, audiobooks, movies, contacts, calendars and games. There appears to be a side bet going on between Dad Windu and I about how fast we can get the hard drive on the computer filled as well. We’re down to having only 11% of available space left. Sheesh!
About a week ago I broke down and bought an external hard drive when it was on super secret sale, which has become our ‘end of life as we know it’ back up but especially our old picture repository. Those picture files are huge. The deleting process has begun…

We transferred a bunch of stuff to an external hard drive not too long ago, too.
Here’s a question, though.
Backing up one’s hard drive to an external hard drive is good, but what if the external hard drive fails?
hmm
Up without a paddle! (except that I’m saving all my ‘must save’ pictures and keep records off-site as well)
11% Ouch! I bet your computer is on go-slow.
So how many GBs have you got on your iPods?
Answer for Ami…. we wondered the same. Currently we also burn photos to disk, but we are about to start a hard drive swap with relatives who live in the same town….we will back up to both hard drives and keep one at each house. It’s fire that bothers me the most.
I hear ya on the big picture files. I had to burn some onto CDs.
Those suckers can hold A LOT of stuff… We have entirely to many I Pods, Zune and other assorted music devices… Remember when the 5 disk CD player was all the rage!!
We have 2 back-up drives.. They aer both almost full.
Oh, the photos. We have so man photos. The Baby Boy, the Grand Baby Girl, the Niece . . . everyone has almost a whole computer devoted to their memories. They take up so much space.
Oh, I have the video iPod, not the new one, but the newer old one and it holds a LOT of stuff. . . . I have at least 30 audiobooks, hundreds of songs, a whole season of a television show, and several 2 hour movies . . . and it still has room to spare.
LOVE IT!
keptwoman: frozen molasses move slower than this thing lately
LOL, I totally know what you mean!!
LOL – once a year (usually after the kid’s turn in their 4H photography projects) I burn all our pictures onto discs.
It’s a pill when I want to find some picture, but it cleans off my hard drive.
Good luck!
