Lando Calrissian: “Lord Vader, we only use this facility for carbon freezing. If you put him in there it might kill him.”
Darth Vader: “I do not want the Emperor’s prize damaged. We will test it on Captain Solo.”

Here’s a shout-out to anyone that is getting more and more afraid to look in the back of the pantry or the bottom of the deep-freeze. Kethry announced tonight that she is going to participate in Catz’ Corner’s Use it up April, and so am I. To be honest, I didn’t even know there was such a thing when I decided yesterday to try not do any but the most essential grocery shopping for April, but I think Catz is on to something. Waste is waste and reducing it is in all our best interests. This can only help to s-t-r-e-t-c-h out next month’s lean income and will be a real help in getting us ready for the bounty that will be coming with the next growing season at the CSA.

heh. we just did this in March, inspired by a discussion thread on Wesabe. But I think we have enough stores in our pantry that we could do it again in April. What does that say about our frugal living efforts?!?
Great idea! Guess this means we’re having Hamburger Helper tonight.
OMK – *shudder*
That’s the beauty of moving house… went through a couple of weeks of doing that too and managed to feed ourselves for quite some time without having to shop. I did feel a bit yucky from the lack of fresh vegetables, but binged out on salad whenever I could. And now it’s nice having room in my freezer again and I’m determined not to fill it up with silly things. It’s going to be full of leftovers from now on that we can just heat up. I should probably eat my way through the tinned foods in our cupboards too, but I like having stuff in for emergencies so I can make a meal from nothing if I really have to.
I did it too in March, but now I’m starting on the last 2 years worth of hurricane supplies. We didn’t have a storm hit so they need to be used up. Mostly can and dried goods, they may actually end up being more for dog food, but that will still save $.
Nice side switch on the blog, btw!
OMK – Thanks!
We don’t keep too much at a time in our cabinets or freezer, mostly because with two teen boys, it is basically like feeding an army. I’m usually scrounging at the end of the week to find something LEFT in the cabinets!
Great thought! One thing I’m doing this month is doing some shopping for a single mom in need. In the past, the first stuff I’ve donated is that stuff in the back of the cupboard but won’t do that this time around.
So, I’ll be following suit with you and using up the dregs….except I simply MUST get some fresh produce!!!
I have to start labeling things I put in the freezer. That would make this process much easier.
This is a good idea. I spent $160 at the grocery store this week, and wouldn’t mind cutting back!
We actually had to clean out our freezer when a repair man came – very, very long overdue!
Most of the stuff in there was freezer burnt because we couldn’t see it and didn’t even know it was still in there – 6 years later… Ok, so I said it was LOOonnng overdue.
