Things Worth Remembering

The three habits that lead to success are: Patience, Application, and Vision.

Take care: The person who will tell others' faults to you - will tell yours to others.

It is always better to be underestimated.

There are three things that are better than riches: Health, Freedom, and Honor.

Think swiftly, speak softly, act wisely.

"The world is neither Scottish, English, nor Irish, neither French, Dutch, nor Chinese, but human, and each nation is only the partial development of a universal humanity." - James Grant on founding the National Association for the Vindication of Scottish Rights, 1862

That’s funny the damage doesn’t look as bad from out here.

“That’s funny the damage doesn’t look as bad from out here.” – C-3PO, Star Wars IV: A New Hope

Since I had to change the dressing this morning anyway, I thought I might as well snap a picture of Padawan Learner’s fingernail-less finger for posterity. This will also help any future spouse understand that his propensity to hurt himself in exceedingly painful ways is long-standing. I’m just saying it’s handy having a doctor completing her pediatric residency living two doors down.

    • Bleck! Poor kid! My dear hubby did a number on his nail. The nail hung on for a little bit and finally succumbed. Thankfully, it DID grow back, much to our amazement.
Hope PL’s has the same sort of luck!

    • Holy Guacamole! Hope it heals quickly.

    • ACK!!! Wow, I hope it grows back soon.

    • We’re looking at anywhere from 2 to 4 months (possibly even 6 if he really messed up the nail bed). I’m hoping, hoping, hoping for the 2 month side. Considering how fast his nails grow normally, we could get lucky on that end.

    • Oh, holy heck. I give you serious props for remaining cool and collected (although the commemorative photography is slightly twisted, imho ;-) ). I would have been on the couch demanding smelling salts. I’m guessing this negatively impacts future bowling outings?

    • ScoutMom: It’s his pinky finger so he might be able to still bowl. Maybe when your boys are back we can try it.

    • OM Goodness! POOR PL! I hope it grows back soon….

    • OMG! I don’t know why I was compelled to look at those. I knew I would totally be grossed out, but it was like some strange gravitational pull forcing me to click onto the photos anyway.

It looks awful. Very painful. I hope it isn’t as bad as it looks. I also hope it heals up soon.

Oh my. I’m going to have to go lay down.

Whoooo Boy! Those are some very interesting photos. When I get up from my nap, I’m going to show Baby Boy. He wants to be a doctor some day, he’d better get started seeing this sort of thing right away.

    • Oh man I knew I shouldn’t look! So glad I’m already laying down. Blerk!!
      Hope it is healing nicely.

Ooooh. Creepy and fascinating all at the same time. Doesn’t want to make me lie down though. My sister is nurse (R.N., B.S.N.) and I’ve sat through tons worse with her. :)

    • Mom #1: It is a morbid obsession for me lately. Weird, I know. It was very, very painful. He almost passed out from the pain – skin was gray, lips were blue and he was trembling all over.
