Things Worth Remembering

The three habits that lead to success are: Patience, Application, and Vision.

It is always better to be underestimated.

There are three things that are better than riches: Health, Freedom, and Honor.

Think swiftly, speak softly, act wisely.

Padawan Learner made a specific request for our trip out west. He wants to listen to the entire Percy Jackson series while we’re traveling; we are bowing to his wishes.  Truth be told, we’re happy to oblige. I’m looking forward to hearing the series since I never got around to reading the books the first time around (from the library), and I’ve heard such good things about it. Those audiobook files are huge though! We’ve had to delete a bunch of things from the main computer just to get them all on. Yes, it is indeed time to get a new hard-drive (or auxillary drive) installed.

While I wasn’t thinking about this when we decided to do it, I’m glad we got the 32 gig iTouch for PL’s birthday. It’s the only one big enough to hold the entire Percy Jackson series, a few movies, and our assorted music collection (with room to spare). And on a life skills note, PL is learning the fine art of downloading audiobooks as I type. It’s good to have a laptop.

Make the audio files lower quality for the audio books. We fit half of The Half Blood Price audio book (18 disc set) onto a half gig shuffle and it was fine to listen to via head phones at least. I didn’t have a way to hook it up to play through the stereo at that point

Also, make sure to go into the info for the files and set the genre to audiobook, make them gapless and set the remember where you stopped button. You can do this as a batch operation by selecting a bunch of tracks in ITunes and then getting the info.

My other advice-watch out for the CD titles that are automatically gathered. Some books have multiple versions and if you get one that’s slightly different, it will show up as a separate album/audiobook.

    • Enjoy the entertainment! That’s better than getting sick of the CDs or tapes you have in the car, then having to scan radio stations in hopes of finding music you like. ;)

    • Oh, I heart audiobooks.

Ditto to everything Karen said, and there’s a few great softwares, like Markable (I think it’s called . . . I have it on my other computer), that lets you join the tracks together and set bookmarks at any interval you wish (I usually chose every 10 minutes). It makes loading cd’s into REAL audiobooks.

Did I mention I heart audiobooks. They rock!

Trip planning sounds like it’s going great.

I have tried audiobooks here at home and just can’t go them. It drives me nuts because when I read, I can speed up or slow down or skip stuff. It’s just not the same in audio format.

I have never tried listening to one on a long car trip, though. Maybe I’d like that more?

We finally got an external hard drive for our old computer. It’s truly amazing. There’s so much stuff on it… and room for lots more. Love it.

And I also love the laptop. It’s become my friend in just one short month.
      :)

    • JUST learned about this series from Stone Age Techie…we’ve got our request in at the library for the first book of the series. I think H-T is gonna LOVE these!
