Things Worth Remembering

The three habits that lead to success are: Patience, Application, and Vision.

Take care: The person who will tell others' faults to you - will tell yours to others.

It is always better to be underestimated.

There are three things that are better than riches: Health, Freedom, and Honor.

Think swiftly, speak softly, act wisely.

Because he enjoys music so much, I have for the past several years encouraged Padawan Learner to consider taking music lessons, but he was never interested in learning an instrument and only liked singing for recreation. So I backed off. I’m so glad I did, too, because he decided to take piano lessons last fall and is doing very well at it. Best of all, he really enjoys playing the piano and always looks forward to his lesson every Friday morning. There’s no nagging, no drudgery, and no avoidance.

Here’s his second piano recital, from yesterday afternoon. He was so calm and collected in front of everyone! He said he gets really relaxed when he’s nervous, how nice is that? He must have been terrified then, because he didn’t show it at all. (Sorry about the poor image, it was like a cave inside the building!)

Monsters out there, leaking in here.

Some things fall squarely into the “What were they thinking?” category. Qui-Gon Ginn has a talent for finding such things. Don’t ask me where she finds them, it is enough to know that she does. Make sure you have the volume on.

PS – I officially apologize for using a Jar Jar Binks quote. It had to be done.

Music is remarkable in its ability to pull my everyday thoughts from me and get me thinking about things that should, frankly, not be discussed in polite company. I’ve been uploading our CDs to the iTunes player, so I can transfer what we want to our iPods, and have been listening to the collection as other songs load.

Dave Matthews’ voice, in particular, is intoxicating. If I was forced to make a Freebie List, I’d be hard pressed not to add his name. We found the album Crash in Dad Windu’s car the other day and some of the songs on there… woo boy.

*fanning myself to cool down*

“Crash Into Me”, “Two Step” and “Say Goodbye” had me wondering where the nearest hotel was as we drove on Saturday night. Dave Matthew’s husky voice, that smokey saxophone and all those assorted wind instruments is a dangerous combination for me.

Episode 3.05:  The gang consider what five celebrities would be on their “freebie lists” — people they could sleep with without their significant other getting upset.

Chandler:  ”Well, we have a deal where we each get to pick five different celebrities that we can sleep with, and the other one can’t get mad.”
Ross:        ”Ah, the heart of every healthy relationship: Honesty, respect, and sex with celebrities.”
Monica:     “So, Chandler… who’s on your list?”
Chandler:  ”Uh, Kim Basinger, Cindy Crawford, Halle Berry, Yasmine Bleeth, and, ah, Jessica Rabbit.”
Rachel:      ”Now, you do realize that she’s a cartoon… and way out of your league?”
Chandler:  ”I know, I know. I just always wondered if I could get her eyes to pop out of her head.”
