Things Worth Remembering

The three habits that lead to success are: Patience, Application, and Vision.

Take care: The person who will tell others' faults to you - will tell yours to others.

It is always better to be underestimated.

There are three things that are better than riches: Health, Freedom, and Honor.

Think swiftly, speak softly, act wisely.

"The world is neither Scottish, English, nor Irish, neither French, Dutch, nor Chinese, but human, and each nation is only the partial development of a universal humanity." - James Grant on founding the National Association for the Vindication of Scottish Rights, 1862

The sledding hill train of death

We went sledding again this afternoon with Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn and the boys, as per our Wednesday tradition. Dee was even able to coax another homeschooling mom, Trish, and her boys join us.

One of the things that our boys love to do is link up all their sleds, give a hearty cry of “Prepare to die” and head down the hill, aiming for the jump if at all possible. The same one that I cracked my head on a few weeks back and watched as the stars flew around my head for a few minutes. They always seem genuinely surprised to hear that the moms don’t feel any need to join in on this adventure.

The main part of the hill has been put to such good use over the past few weeks that the it has transmorgified (to quote Calvin) into a mountain of ice, with just enough of a dusting of snow from last night to hide this fact until your feet are trying to fly out from beneath you. I’m beginning to think that this thing is out to get us all. Maybe the boys are onto something.
